My stepfather and I ripped out my previous wood ladder setup (which he took for himself - people helping people, it's powerful stuff) and installed this one in a matter of an hour. I need to trim the legs a tiny bit to be gap free but that will be maybe 2 minutes of work with some snips. I really like the ease with which the ladder comes down and goes back up. My old unit would shoot back up when trying to put the ladder in the closed position.
Definitely worth the money and I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone needing an attic ladder.

I bought this ladder at Lowes for $185.00 and found it to be a great product. I was sceptical seeing it was made in China but it is very well built. The instructions were easy to follow and there is a online video that walks you step by step through installation. I had a friend help me lift the one piece assembly into the attic and that was all the help I required. It looks great and is very sturdy. I am very impressed.

My attic ladder was out of warrenty when a hinge (white metal) broke. After contacting Werner, to find replacement parts, they responded within 24 hours. They are sending a new section with stainless steel hindges at no charge.

Werner's ladder is a high-quality product. Much sturdier than the wooden folding ladders. However, the wood access panel attached to the ladder is cheaper quality wood, which easily frays. Also, it notes that the ladder is for spaces from 7'-0" to 8'-5". My floor to ceiling is 7'-8" and did not fit as the instructions directed. I had to trim the aluminum legs down so the ladder properly extends.

This is a very high quality stair set. Installation is as easy as it can be for an overhead install. Cutting the bottom of the ladder to the correct length for your room height is very well explained and it 'works' !!
The only problem I found is the stairs need completely gone over to tighten all the nuts and fasteners. I don't think there is a better stair set on the market.

I did not buy this item on Amazon, but I can attest to the quality of the ladder. I purchased it through special order at a local store that sells Werner ladders.
The box arrived in pristine condition, and the frame was square. I ripped out the old ladder (45 minutes), a friend helped me pop it up into the attic, set it on the supports (per the instructions), and nailed and screwed it to the beams (45 minutes). We had to cut the legs because they were too long. That took about 45 minutes. Total time: about 2 hours. It was my first attic ladder.
All in all, FANTASTIC product. It is ROCK solid. It seems like most people were rating this down because of the condition it is received after it is shipped.

As a builder who has purchased many wooden ladders over the years, I thought that I would be providing a superior product to my customers with the purchase of a Werner aluminum ladder.
While the ladder itself is sturdy, I was disappointed to find many missing bolts (had to run up to Home depot for bolts to "re-assemble" the ladder) One "L" bracket was just loose in the box, and other bolts were not tightened.
Additionally, the 1/4" panel sent with the door is a horrible piece of wood. The painter will have to spend a lot of time sanding, putty-ing, and prepping; or we will have to re-skin with another piece of panel. I do not expect stain grade material on an attic access, but I would have difficulty finding a comparatively junky piece of material at the lumber yard.
I won't purchase this ladder again.

I immediately noticed the tension on this ladder is too strong even when adjusted to the holes closest to the spring. I told my whole family to pull down very hard to open it and when putting it back up to make sure it does not slip from their hands and slam.
Well, an electrician was working in the attic and it did slip and slam and the pop rivet heads came right through the thin wood skin. I had to drill them out and replace them with bolts.
I was surprised at how much it cost considering how cheaply some of it appears to be built. Other than that, the ladder seems functional and I an glad to have one.

Just installed this today with the help of my father. This ladder works great and feels solid. My Dad is a carpenter so he helped me with the squaring and shimming. My wife wanted to have this to access the garage attic and it works well. The ladder is built better than the louisville ladders at home depot hence the slightly higher price. I have not seen the problems the previous poster had.

Ladder was easy enough to install, and fit tight all around the door at first. One week later, the door has a large gap on one side. After inspection, the thin plywood has bowed down leaving the gap. I am going to try to use some wood strips on the back side to try and straighten the door back out...we will see.
I was talking to a friend (after I installed mine) and he had similar trouble with one corner bowing, and leaving a 3/8" gap.
The door is just to thin and only support is crossways, none length wise.
And, it is just too much trouble to uninstall and take back. Really should be made better.
