"Great product though the door can be complicated" 2009-12-27
By Blake Harrison
I just finished installing a televator into a tight spot in our house and I really like it. Read the directions carefully and you'll likely find it an easy installation. It does feel a little rickety at first, but now that I have been up and down it a bunch of times I totally trust it. The hardest part is the door. I made a 30 by 34 opening for our attic and had to make a custom door. I decided to join some old 1 by 10 shiplap to make the door, which looks nice. But the directions for the door and the hardware that comes with it is set up for a thinner plywood than the shiplap. I just had to go slow and make a few adjustments. Even without that complication to the project, any custom door will take a few hours to complete, so leave yourself time, and unlike me, don't do it on a super cold day while all the heat in your house rushes up through the open attic hatch while you work on the door! Overall, it came out great and we now have access to plenty attic storage that we did not have before.

 "Great ladder" 2009-11-16
By r.c. (Boston, MA)
Bought this ladder based on good reviews for new construction confined space attic access. Product is easy to install - I did it solo but a hand would be helpful. Give yourself a 1/2 day for complete install. Installed this about a year ago and the operation has been flawless.

"Choose the 10 ft model if joists bigger than 4-6", even with 8ft ceiling height" 2009-09-16
By G. Mills
As many of the reviews have stated, this is a great product that fills a need well.

One detail not covered in the product description relates to the choice of 8ft versus 10ft version where the attic joists are more than 4 to 6 inches high. I live in a custom home where the joists are 2x12 and found that the 8ft ladder was not tall enough despite having an 8ft ceiling height. If the ladder is mounted near the bottom of the joist the ladder cannot pivot out sufficently to allow easy climbing, that is, it ends up being almost vertical. Mounting the ladder higher up on the joist resulted in a ladder not quite long enough to reach the floor. Ray at Werner customer support stated that an additional collapsing step was simply not available. He suggested 3 solutions: 1. Exchange the ladder for the 10ft model; 2. Cut the joist down to a smaller size (which would result in a joist not properly designed to support the roof load; or 3. Build a wooden box to put under the ladder at the base (certainly not convenient for use or storage). Since we had already partially installed the ladder, returning it wasn't an option. The only difference between the 8ft and 10ft model is additional collapsing steps with side rail pieces, so I can't understand why someone couldn't just grab a step from the assembly bins and ship it out, especially since Ray stated that this situation had happened before. Obviously customer support had not bothered to address this issue or mention it to the people creating marketing information for this product. The solution we used was to use a couple of pieces of 3/8" x 3" x 20" aluminum to extend the legs of the ladder the additional 6 inches we needed. Using a table saw the aluminum stock was shaved down on both sides to create a ledge to stop the stock from sliding up into the ladder side rails beyond 14 inches, thus giving us our 6 inch extension. The side rail had holes that were used as a drilling guide to drill through the stock to allow securing with #10 bolts. This worked well. So, if you have joists deeper than 4 to 6 inches, consider getting the 10 foot ladder model even if your ceiling is only 8 feet high. And don't expect much help from Werner customer support.

 "Great Attic Ladder" 2009-06-04
By Charles Heger (Saratoga, CA)
I wanted a pull down type attic ladder that would disappear up into the attic. The conventional types would not work as I used a powered louver for the "hatch" that is part of a whole house fan system. I had been designing a real kludge when I discovered the Werner product. I didn't hesitate and ordered it immediately. It arrived promptly and I was very impressed with both the engineering and installation instructions. It was a breeze to install and required only 2 hours. The hardest part was some custom framing to accommodate the powered louver. It is quite sturdy and feels more secure than the wooden fold-in-half types. I had only one glitch. After about a week it jammed and would not completely pull down. I called the factory and they were VERY helpful and with their advice, it took me only 10 minutes to fix the problem. I had been doing some electrical work while standing on it and apparently I dropped some material into one of the openings of the sliding structure. I highly recommend this product.

 "Just what I needed" 2009-08-27
By Brian K. Soltermann
The Werner AC10-20-02 Long Body Aluminum Ladder Jacks were just what I needed. I am a do-it-yourselfer who was rebuilding and shingling a garage roof. I needed to have an easy scaffold to do the shingling so that I did not have to keep moving ladders as I shingled. These ladder jacks did the trick. They were easy to assemble and adjust to provide a level scaffold. In addition the retainer "clips" were great for keeping a narrower scaffold from moving around. That provides comfort when working off the ground. They are very strong as both my father and I were able to be on the same scaffold at the same time and we both weigh over 200 lbs. I would recommend these for anyone that needs a good, sturdy, affordable pair of ladder jacks.

i've used long body ladder jacks before and there is not a product on the market that can compare. By far the Werner ladder jacks exceed all expectations from the general contractor to the week-end do-it-yourself handy man. For under $90.00 painting your house just became a whole lot easier. If you don't own a pair soon, somethings wrong!

 "Great Value" 2009-12-28
By E. Greenwald (CA, USA)
I've needed a folding or telescoping ladder, but those from major companies were beyond my budget. Found this one by accident, and was willing to gamble, especially as it qualified for free shipping. The quality of the product is much better than I expected. It is very sturdy and rigid in every configuration I have tried. I can't speak for how it would hold up under daily commercial use, but for intermittent use by a homeowner I believe it will last essentially forever. The folded length is less than 41 inches. Easily fits in the trunk of my very small car. Just what I needed.

"Looks great, does its job" 2009-12-06
By David Higgins (USA)
It looks like any other expensive ladder out there for $200 - $300 dollars. I would have given this ladder five stars, but there is one thing about it that kinda annoyed me. I want to note first that perhaps all fold-able ladders are like this... so if that is the case you can ignore what I am about to say. In order for the ladder to fold out, it has these high tension springs and little small pieces of metal that you need to push up or down to lock into place. If those little "handles" were wider, it would have been easier to adjust the ladder with your hand. However they are really short so I had a hard time trying to hold the ladder still, while using a pair of wire pliers and gloves to adjust those small little handles to adjust the ladder. It took me about 20 minutes just to extend the ladder, and after my job was complete, I didn't even bother folding it all up again due to the time it takes to redo/undo the ladder.

They make it seem like it is really light and just pops open and closed and easily fits in the trunk of your car, but there is more work involved and unless your trunk is completely empty then yeah it will fit. Other than that one negative about tough to release latches, the ladder is fine.

 "Does the Job" 2009-09-22
By S. Kim (Shasta County, CA)
Bottom line? This ladder is a great value for what I paid for it. If you're looking for a versatile ladder for not a lot of money, this is it. Above average construction but definitely not "heavy-duty". Meant more for light household functions. Base is a little unstable but that might be because I didn't secure it properly. The only thing I don't like is that there is no where to put your tools at the top. That would be a nice extra.

I would recommend this ladder for anyone who needs multifunction capability and a good deal. If you're looking for a heavy-duty construction-grade ladder, keep looking. I'm satisfied with it though.

 "Convenient Ladder" 2009-09-22
By Scott Lawrence
Purchased this ladder on sale from Amazon. It is very convenient to use, easy to set up, folds down pretty small. The only issue I have with it is that though it is rated for 300 pounds, when it is extended to full length and I get on it (220 pounds) it flexes pretty decently giving it an unstable feel. But it seems to take the weight just fine. I would definitely buy again though...

 "What the wife wanted." 2010-01-30
By Terry E. Peterson

This ladder is the second cosco ladder I've bought. The wife wanted a ladder for Christmas last year and she got the four foot ladder and was very happy. This last Christmas she wanted a taller ladder and she go the five foot ladder. She has a bad back and at just eight pounds this ladder lets her move around the house and clean what ever she can reach. What ever makes her happy is the secret!

 "Not a 6 foot ladder" 2010-01-21
By Linda Robertson (Heavener, Oklahoma)
This ladder is about 5 feet tall not 6 feet as advertised. It is light weight and I will keep it as an indoor ladder but if you need a full 6 foot ladder, do not buy this one. Unless you use the large platform step for a paint can, there is no place to put a paint can on this ladder.

 "Great household ladder!" 2009-11-13
By Lorrett (Berkeley, CA 94704)
I wanted a lightweight ladder for my home office -- one that stored flat, opened easily and was generally convenient to use. We have the "little brother" of this ladder downstairs in the kitchen. Love 'em both!

If you're a little-short-squirt who has to get at stuff on high shelves,

If you're strapped for space and want to stash the ladder behind a (usually-open) door,

If you've HAD IT with heavy "outdoor" ladders that are labeled "light" but aren't,

If you've had to fiddle with and yank on a ladder that seems to be designed to resist opening,

If you've pinched your fingers in a ladder's "works" for the Very-Last-Time...

You'll like this one too.
